Meet Garrett

I am short. I am blonde. I love to be outside. I love to lift heavy weights. Mildly obsessed with pull-ups, handstands and flips. I like a good physical challenge or dare. I love coffee. I like to laugh. I think I’m funny.

I was born and raised in Indiana and attended Miami University in Ohio. I studied Journalism and Business Management and Legal Studies, minoring in French. With a zest for nature, travel and going outside my comfort zone I lived and worked in my favorite state, Colorado, for the entire summer of 2010.

My first ever fitness certification was through Miami. I was group fitness certified over the course of one year. Part of the program was learning how to teach an 80s style step class!

In college I taught TRX and spinning classes with the occasional bootcamp.

After college I coached small group TRX and bootcamp classes. I also instructed at various Shred415 location in chicago teaching treadmill programming and strength/HIIT exercises.

I am passionate about movement.

I care about teaching others how to find their best physique and eat well.

Now in Boston I teach spinning at CYC and HIIT classes at Barry’s Bootcamp.

At Crossroads of Fitness I coach nutrition and strength one-on-one.

This is a website meant to inspire others. It is a place where I pull from my own experiences to help motivate men and women alike to find the best version of themselves by way of movement.

I believe in finding your own strength. I believe there is difference between what you think you can do and what you can actually do– you can actually do more.

I think through confidence in one’s physical strength, one can find mental and emotional strength.

I am a fitness enthusiast, avid skier, sister, daughter and friend. I like to make sense of my experiences by storytelling and I love to push others through group fitness classes. In Indiana I used to substitute teach at Fit Flex Fly. In Chicago I taught small group TRX classes at Rebell Conditioning, taught spinning at LA Fitness, and taught HIIT classes at Shred415 (all locations). Currently in Boston I am training to teach at CYC (which will be open soon),and HIIT classes at Barry’s Bootcamp Boston.

I am an SFG Level I, NSCA-PT certified, Madd Dog Spin certified instructor, TRX certified instructor and Precision Nutrition Level I certified.

At night when trying to fall to sleep, I imagine myself skiing the trees; I visualize gymnastics skills; and I picture things like this:

Meet Lauren

Hi I’m Lauren Palm, previously Lauren Fingers. I know. Go ahead and make the joke- Palm and Fingers?! No way! Yes way. Somewhat of an upgrade if you ask me, but the name “Fingers” will always hold a soft spot in my heart.

I was born and raised in Centerville, OH in the most American and small-town way. I graduated from Miami University and now I currently live in Columbus, OH where I work and teach Sunday School. I am married to a man way out of my league and am patiently waiting to become the owner of our future fur-baby, Little Bear- he’s a Newfoundland, so the name makes sense. My favorite color is yellow; which also happens to be my favorite song.

At the age of 12, my neighbor and I would design workouts for each other. I started weight-training in high school and began a self-taught study of what certain types of workouts would do to my body.

I started long-distance running in college where I completed my first full-marathon with my dad (26.2 miles allows for some great father-daughter bonding time).

Upon graduating, I got involved in power-lifting and, dare I say, fell in love. The process of feeling yourself get stronger is incredible and addicting. I began to see changes in my body that I never thought possible. I felt empowered, I felt capable, and I felt the desire to continue to push myself. “How cool is this?!” I thought. I have the power build the body (aka the glutes I never thought I could have), the health, and the lifestyle that I want. I can’t NOT share this with people.

I began looking into personal training certifications and options while helping friends design workouts based on their goals, schedules, and abilities. Before feeling totally confident in making the jump, I wanted to feel what it would be like on the client side and asked my girl, Garrett Wood to coach me in the most extreme of ways. I wanted to be pushed to my limits before I’d ever ask someone else to let me push them. I competed in my first body building competition in 2016 and can now say I’ve been involved in each aspect of the fitness industry.

I fell in love with the study of macros because of the way that understanding them changed my own life. In high school and early college, I was victim to the traps of all fad diets. You name it – I tried it, and 10 times out of 10, I bounced back – and I don’t mean in a casual way. When I “bounce back,” I eat a full large pizza, a triple chocolate milkshake, and a box of white cheddar cheese-its. Don’t mind me- just over here having a causal binge session… Then I would feel guilty, rinse, and repeat. Flexible dieting saved me, my body, and my metabolism. It wasn’t an option- I HAD to find a way to incorporate the foods I love without crushing my fitness goals. Turns out, I just needed to be educated on the science behind nutrition. While I had done some further self-study of nutrition and wellness throughout college, it wasn’t until my senior year that I took my first Nutrition class. I’ve always been a nerd for science, but this took it to a whole new level. There is no arguing with the science of it: calories in < calories out = weight loss, calories in > calories out = weight gain; but nutrition is awesome because there is an art to it as well. There are so many different ways of getting to the end results that can be completely customized to each person and what their goals are. Personally, I love experimenting with my own nutrition – it’s like one big science project: “What will happen if I add/subtract this from my diet…?” “How will this supplement change this aspect…?”

I was lucky enough to grow up with Christ, but I’m still falling in love with Him more every day. I know this is not my home and I know the war has already been won for me, this gives me the hope to start each day, and the courage to take chances in living life to the fullest. God truly wants to help us become the best-version-of-ourselves, and to do this, we have to take care of our bodies too. It’s amazing how a solid fitness program and diet will increase your mood, productivity, and over-all energy for life. Don’t ever let someone make you feel bad for investing in your health and wellness. It’s not selfish; it can actually be quite the opposite- we need to strengthen ourselves to be able to serve others most efficiently!

I am a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) and am working towards my Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification. I put myself through it first and would never ask you to do something I haven’t tried. I am forever a student of the industry.

Fitness is a journey and it’s individualized to each person. There is no “one size fits all” and there is no right way. How cool?!
